Software Testing Analyst
Minimum
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or another field applicable to software testing; and 2 years of work experience, including 1 year of directly related experience in software testing with Windows and Web applications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills; familiarity with programming and networking concepts, Windows and Web system design and administration principles, relational databases, and software development processes; and the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks under deadline pressures.
Essential Job Functions: Perform manual and some automated testing on assigned systems. Position requires evening and weekend hours during peak periods in addition to regular work hours. Typical work related activities include:
* Participate in project meetings to learn application domain knowledge and gather information for software test planning; review specifications and other design documentation to identify missing information and discrepancies before they result in bugs in the software.
* Coordinate testing activities from knowledge gathering and test planning to test creation, execution, output verification, and results reporting; ensure that testing staff has access to all resources needed for their work; mentor staff in testing techniques.
* Choose appropriate testing strategies and write test plans; define entry criteria for testing processes, and create checklists for setup tasks.
* Develop and execute test procedures and test cases based on test plans, software design documentation, other available information, and past testing experience.
* Develop or participate in the development of test software to execute test cases using HP Quick Test Professional, VBScript, or other languages.
* Provide testing project status information and create software testing results reports.
* Create detailed technical documents and participate in written and spoken communication with developers, analysts, and end users; use clear and accurate language to report test results and discuss testing projects in writing and in meetings.
* Review contractors' test plans, test cases, and test results reports; collaborate on audits of contractors' testing work on those subsystems that will be tested by contractors.
* Collaborate on test plans and coordinate activities in preparation for testing those subsystems that will be tested by ACT; create checklists for setup tasks and entry criteria for the testing environment.
* Provide training and guidance in software testing practices to staff in other areas.
* Review the results of test execution; compare output to expected results; document discrepancies in incident reports.
