software QA Engineer

Experience: 6+ years experience in networking working within a technical support, test engineering or quality assurance group

Skills: • Demonstrated skills in developing and executing out-of-the-box tests and driving correction actions back into the proper departments. • Strong understanding of networking protocols like TC/IP, SONET, Ethernet, MPLS or FiberChannel • Strong knowledge of enterprise applications. Ability to configure enterprise level networks including Active Directory and Certificate Authority servers. • Prior experience with software applications written in C and C++. • Prior experience with the following operating systems Window XP, 2000, Vista, Win 2003/8 Server, Unix: Solaris, Linux: RedHat ES, Fedora Core • Good knowledge of Java and web-based applications • Knowledge of scripting languages (Tcl/Tk, Expect, Perl, Unix shell, VB, DOS) preferred • Ability to: create/execute test plans, follow product test schedules, analyze problems and work with others on the tasks necessary to provide solutions • Good written/verbal communications skills and able to interact with customers and developers • Basic knowledge of network security concepts & cryptography preferred • Ability to perform independent validation on products while working in a team environment. Demonstrate good independent judgment and decision making • Good understanding of the SDLC process and able to work with other disciplines to drive corrective actions Essential Duties and Responsibilites: • Assists Lead QA Engineers with test development and execution activities • Designs QA level test cases based on test plans • Performs out-of-the-box quality assurance testing of products • Maintains proper version control procedures for test software • Reviews product documentation and provides input to assure accuracy • Gather results of testing and writes test reports • Configuration and maintenance of the Quality Assurance Lab routers, switches and test equipment • Works closely with Sale Engineers and/or Technical Support Engineers to understand product usage in the field • Travel as needed to customer sites to conduct user interviews • Provide mentoring to junior level QA Engineers • Other duties as assigned
